Trinity Drops Pair of Games to Saint Xavier

After changing the time and the game’s location, Trinity and Saint Xavier University (Chicago, Illinois) took to the field in a conference double-header. Playing as the visiting team on their home field, the Trolls had their hands full with the Cougars, a team receiving votes in the NAIA Coaches’ Poll.  In the first game Saint Xavier scored early and the Trolls were shut-out with a 5-0 final. Trinity gave up the most runs in the middle innings of the second game on the way to an 8-2 loss.
The Trolls fell behind early in the first game and gave up the game’s five runs in the first three innings. The Cougars got on the board with a home run in the first inning to score two runs. They added one more run in the second inning and another in the third inning to go ahead 5-0. Trinity had runners on base in each of those innings, but did not advance around the bags.

Trinity was not successful in making up those runs as they had only one runner on base in the final four innings. They did hold the Cougars from scoring again, but the damage had already been done.

For the game Trinity had three hits with Dara Megyesi recording two.  Saint Xavier had five hits for their five runs.   Megyesi pitched the first five innings for the loss.

In the second game the Trolls gave up three hits that resulted in one run in the first inning. Trinity briefly took the lead in the top of the third when they scored two run. The first run was scored by Katie Demas who stole third base and then took advantage of an errant throw to get home. Audrey Ricker had a single RBI to bring in the second run. Trinity’s lead did not last long as the Cougars hit a three-run homer in the bottom to take a 4-2 lead.

Saint Xavier kept up their scoring in the fourth inning with four runs to pull ahead at 8-2. The Trolls had runners on base in each of the final four innings, but did not string together hits to move those runners and make a difference in the score.

Trinity had five hits for the game and Saint Xavier had 12. Audrey Ricker led the team with three hits. Ricker and Bell were both on the mound with the loss going to starter Ricker.

The Trolls play next on March 25 in a non-conference double-header at Lincoln College at 2 pm.
