Troll Open CCAC Schedule Against No. 23 Tigers

The home and conference opener for the Trolls was a double-header with Olivet Nazarene University (Bourbonnais, Illinois), a team ranked No. 23 in the NAIA Coaches’ Poll. In the first game Trinity stumbled in a couple of innings in which multiple runs were scored. In the end they lost 13-0 on the mercy rule after five innings. The Trolls fell behind in the second game, but continued to fight back.  However, they could not match the offensive power of the Tigers and lost 8-4.  Trinity is now 1-11 for the season and 0-2 in the CCAC.

In the opening game the Trolls were limited on the base path as they had only one hit for the game and it came in the first inning. Olivet Nazarene had a 1-0 lead going into the third inning in which they connected on five hits to score six runs to open the game with a 7-0 lead. The Tigers added one more run in the fourth inning, and behind a grand slam they added five runs to go ahead at 13-0. When the Trolls went three up and three down in the bottom of the fifth the game ended on the mercy rule.

Trinity had one run for the game and Olivet Nazarene had 10. Audrey Ricker got the loss on the mound.

In the second game the Trolls gave up only one run in the first three innings and trailed 1-0. Olivet Nazarene scored two more in the fourth inning, but the Trolls got on the board in the bottom half on a solo homer by Sydni Mitchell to make it a 3-1 game.

The Tigers kept the base path busy in the fifth inning and with five hits they score three more to make it a 6-1 game. The Trolls inched closer with a run in the bottom of the sixth. Olivet Nazarene continued to find the bases and tacked on two more runs and left two stranded in the seventh. The Trolls were not going to go away quietly and with two outs in the bottom of the seventh Dara Megyesi homered to score two runs to bring the final score to 8-4.

The Trolls had eight hits for the game and Olivet Nazarene had 16. Ricker, Mitchell, and Brandi Machado each had two hits. Megyesi threw the entire game for the loss.

Trinity continues conference action on March 23 in a double-header at Saint Xavier University at 12 pm.
