Trolls End Trip with Victory

In their final two days in the PXF Spring Games in Florida the Trolls dropped three games before they got their first win of the season. On Thursday, March 7, the team took on the University of St. Francis (Fort Wayne, Indiana) and lost 4-2. Their second game of that day was an 8-1 loss to Briar Cliff University (Sioux City, Iowa). Friday’s competition started out with a 7-6 loss to Hannibal-LaGrange University (Hannibal, Missouri). The team finished on a high with a 6-4 win over Grace College (Winona Lake, Indiana). The team ended their spring break trip with a 1-9 record.

In the game with St. Francis the Trolls fell behind by four runs and made a charge in the final two innings, but still came up short.  Trinity gave up three runs in the bottom of the second inning and allowed one more run in the fifth inning to trail 4-0. The Trolls rallied in the top of the sixth in which they scored one run and left two runners stranded. In their next at bat, with two outs, they got on base on an error and then scored on a triple by Ahliza Moore. When the inning and game ended they had two runners on the bags.

The Trolls ended with two hits for the game and St. Francis had seven. Katie Demas and Moore each had one hit. Emili Bell pitched the six innings for the loss.

The game with Briar Cliff was scoreless through the first three innings, but changed in the top of the fourth when the Mustangs scored six runs on three hits and one error. The Trolls also had three hits in the inning, including a RBI double by Audrey Ricker, but they scored only one run.  Briar Cliff picked up two more runs in the sixth inning to make it an 8-1 score. The Trolls had a runner in scoring position in both the sixth and seventh, but did not add to their total by the game’s end.

For the game each team had seven hits. Sydni Mitchell led the way for Trinity with two hits. Ricker was on the mound for 5.1 innings for the loss.

Most of the scoring in the morning game with Hannibal-LaGrange came in the first and last innings. After giving up two runs in the top of the first, the Trolls took the lead with three runs in the bottom. Those runs were scored behind hits from Makayla Otto, Bell, Mitchell, and Claudia Pareja.  Trinity extended their lead to 4-2 in the fourth, but Hannibal-LaGrange got one back in the fifth.

The Trojans kept the base path busy in the top of the seventh and had four hits to score four runs to take over the lead for the first time in the game at 7-4. In the bottom of the inning the Trolls got two runners on base, and with two outs, Dara Megyesi singled to bring in one run. Pareja followed with single to score another run to bring the Trolls to within one at 7-6.  However, the third out came before the team could advance those runners and the Trolls ended in the one run loss.

Each team had 12 hits for the game. Pareja led the Trolls with four hits while Mitchell had three. Ricker and Megyesi were both on the mound with the loss going to Megyesi.

In their final spring break game the Trolls rallied to come from behind for the win. Heading into the fourth inning Trinity trailed 2-0.  With runners on base Pareja singled to drive in two runs and Jessica Boyd had a hit for another run to give the Trolls a 3-2 lead. Their lead did not last long when Grace scored twice in the bottom half to go back ahead at 4-3.

Mitchell started the sixth inning with a hit and was followed with a homer run by Demas to create a 5-4 lead. With two outs in the seventh inning hits by Alissa Gardenal, Ricker, and Mitchell brought in one more run to make it a 6-4 game.  The Trolls held the Lancers in the bottom half to get the win.

Trinity had 11 hits for the game as did Grace. Mitchell led the team with three hits and Demas had two.  Bell was on the mound for the win.

The Trolls play next in their home opener on March 15 at 3 pm in a double-header with the University of Wisconsin-Parkside.
