Trolls Make CCAC Softball Championship

The Trolls finished the regular season conference schedule in seventh place and are one of the top eight teams that will participate in the CCAC Championships on May 3-5. Trinity enters the tournament as the No. 7 seed and will begin play in the double-elimination tournament against No. 2 Olivet Nazarene University on May 3 at 11 am. The tournament, hosted by Roosevelt University, will be played at The Ballpark at Rosemont.

Trinity, who posted a 15-25 final season record, returns to the tournament after making an appearance last season.  At 8-14 in the conference they ended in tie with two other teams, but are seeded above them in the standings with wins over both of those opponents.  The Trolls’ first game is against No. 2 Olivet Nazarene University, a team receiving votes in the NAIA Coaches’ Poll. The Tigers finished their season with a 20-2 conference record and are 33-10 overall. During the season the Trolls lost two games to Olivet Nazarene on March 22 with scores of 13-5 and 15-1.

The remainder of the tournament field includes No. 1 University of St. Francis (32-6, 21-1), No. 3 Trinity International University (25-13, 16-6), No. 4 Saint Xavier University (24-13, 13-9), No. 5 Judson University (30-19, 13-9), No.6 St. Ambrose University (27-18, 10-12), and No. 8 Indiana University-South Bend (13-19, 8-14).

St. Francis, as the regular season conference champions, has earned a bid to the NAIA National Championship Opening Round. The CCAC’s second automatic bid to the national tournament will be awarded to the tournament champion. If St. Francis should win the tournament, the tournament runner-up will receive the automatic berth.
