Trolls Suffer Late Inning Losses

The Trolls suffered a pair of late inning losses in their fourth day of competition in the PXF Spring Games in Florida. Facing Lourdes University (Ohio) for the second time this week, Trinity could not hold on to their early inning lead. They gave up three runs in the final inning for the 7-6 loss. In their second game of the day the Trolls played Hannibal-LaGrange University (Missouri). Trinity allowed a run in the bottom of the seventh inning that handed them the 3-2 loss. The team is now 3-7 for the season.

In the first game of the day with Lourdes, the Trolls gave up two runs in the first inning, but came back with four runs in the second inning to take the lead.  Three hits combined with two fielding errors by Trojans led to those four runs. Lourdes scored again in the bottom of the second, but Trinity added two more in the top of the third for a 6-3 lead.

The Trolls did not score again, yet were still ahead at 6-4 heading into the bottom of the seventh.  A fielding error followed by two hits allowed the Gray Wolves to score two runs to tie the game.  Another error put a runner into scoring position. Lourdes took advantage of that situation and connected on a base hit to score and hand the Trolls a 7-6 loss.

Trinity had eight hits for the game and committed four errors. Chloe McRobbie and Audrey Ricker each had two hits for the team.  Dara Megyesi stepped to the mound in the final inning for the pitching loss.

The game with Hannibal-LaGrange was a scoreless affair through the first three innings. The Trolls struck first off a solo homer by Jamie Budreau in the top of the fourth inning. A double by McRobbie in the fifth inning put another run on the board to give the Trolls the 2-0 lead.

Hannibal-LaGrange made up the scoring difference in the bottom of the sixth inning on a two-run home run. They threatened to score again with a runner on third base, but the Trolls held that runner.

In their final at bat Trinity put two runners on base, but left them stranded. With two outs in the bottom half the Trojans got runners on with a single and an error. The next batter also made connect and the hit drove in the game-winning run to give the Trolls the 3-2 loss.

Each team had nine hits for the game. Katelyn Sena led the Trolls with two hits. Megyesi pitched the complete game for the loss.

The team will complete their Florida trip on March 9 with games against Concordia University (MI) and Bellevue University (NE).
