Trolls Post Two Shut-Outs

In their second day of competition in the PFX Spring Games in Florida, the Trolls shut out their opponents in two five inning mercy rules games. With their first victory over the season, the team defeated Lourdes University (Ohio) with a 9-0 win. The Trolls followed it with a 8-0 game against Cornerstone University. The team is now 2-4 for the season.

Against Lourdes, Trinity immediately got runners on base and kept the base path busy. With bases loaded, the team drove in one run and then brought two more across the plate on a double by Mercedes Munoz. Before the inning was over they had five runs.

The final four of Trinity’s runs were scored with home run hits.  In the third inning Melinda Russell hit a three-run homer to give the Trolls an 8-0 lead.  Jamie Budreau made it 9-0 in the fourth inning on a solo homer.

With Emili Bell on the mound the Trolls allowed only two hits and two runners on base. When Lourdes failed to score after five innings the game ended.

Trinity had 11 hits for the game. Katelyn Sena and Brandi Machado had two hits each. Emili Bell had a total of six strike-outs and recorded the shut-out.

The Trolls scored late in the game with Cornerstone to take a commanding lead and end the game early. Trinity got on the board in the second inning with two runs. They scored another in the fourth inning to take a 4-0 lead.

Trinity held Cornerstone to three hits and only four base runners for the game. The Golden Eagles got runners into scoring position in the fifth inning, but the Trolls stranded them. With one out in the bottom of the inning, Budreau hit a solo home run and then the team followed with four singles that score three more runs to give the Trolls an eight run lead that ended the game on the mercy rule.

The Trolls had a total of 10 hits with Munoz and Audrey Ricker each getting two. Dara Megyesi was on the mound for the win.

The team takes on Bethel College and Marian University on Tuesday, March 6.
