Trolls Split Results

In the third day of action in the PFX Spring Games in Florida, the Trolls faced two more Midwest teams. Their first game was a no-hitter shut-out 8-0 victory in five innings against Bethel College (Mishawaka, Indiana). The Trolls faced NAIA Preseason No. 4 Marian University (Indianapolis, Indiana) in the second game and lost 3-2 in the final inning.  The team is now 3-5 for the season.

Behind the efforts of a no-hitter from the pitching staff the Trolls shut-out Bethel.  The team allowed only 16 batters in five innings while they scored in each of their five innings at bat. They got on the board early as they scored three runs off a home run by Chloe McRobbie in the first inning. A pair of doubles helped the team score two more runs in the second inning to take a 5-0 lead.

McRobbie blasted another ball over the fence in the third inning to give the Trolls one more run. Doubles by Jamie Budreau and McRobbie in the fifth inning gave the team two runs to make it 8-0 after four innings. When Bethel failed to score in the top of the fifth the game ended on the mercy rule.

For the game the Trolls had 10 hits. McRobbie posted two home runs and double for six RBI. Katelyn Sena and Budreau each had two hits. Dara Megyesi pitched through the first four innings and Caitlyn Aardema finished the game for the shared no-hitter shut-out.

The Trolls had a good start against Marian and McRobbie’s bat was once again hot as she homered for two runs in the first inning.  The Trolls were limited on the base path through the first part of the game, but they held Marian until the fourth inning when the Knights scored twice to tie the score.

The tie remained until the final inning. The Trolls threatened to score in top of the seventh with a runner on third base, but did not get her across the base. In the bottom of the inning a walk put a runner on base and an error moved her to scoring position. That runner took advantage of a wild pitch for the walk-off winning run.

The Trolls ended the game with five hits and Marian had six. McRobbie and Budreau led the team with two hits each.  Audrey Ricker pitched the first four innings and Megyesi finished the game and recorded the loss.

The team will play next on March 8 against Lourdes University and Hannibal-LaGrange University.
