Softball Begins Spring Break Games

The Trolls begin their 10-game schedule in the PFX Spring Games in Florida with two losses. The team’s opener was against Mt. Vernon Nazarene University (Ohio) and resulted in a bottom of the seventh inning 4-3 loss. In their second outing the Trolls had a sizable lead evaporate as they lost 13-6 to Spring Arbor University (Michigan).

The opening game against Mt. Vernon Nazarene was fairly quiet until the later innings. The game was scoreless until the fifth inning when each team scored one run. The Trolls then took the lead in the sixth inning when a double by Chloe McRobbie brought in two runs. Their lead did not last long as the Cougars matched those two runs in the bottom of the inning to make it a 3-3 game.

The Trolls were three up and three down in the seventh inning. With two outs in the bottom of the inning, Mt. Vernon got two runners on base. They followed with a double that results in the walk-off run that ended the game.

For the game Trinity had four hits and five errors and Mt. Vernon had six hits and two errors. Four different players for the Trolls had hits. Dara Megyesi was the mound for the loss.

Against Spring Arbor the Trolls scored quickly and took a 6-0 lead after three innings. The first of those runs came on a home run by Jamie Budreau. Spring Arbor got on the board with two runs in the fourth inning and the game changed in fifth inning. In that inning the Cougars had four hits and the Trolls committed two errors that lead to eight runs to allow Spring Arbor to take a 10-6 lead.

After a scoreless sixth inning, Spring Arbor gained three more runs in the top of the seventh. Trinity got a couple of runners on base in the bottom half, but it was not enough to make up for the damage already done.

The Trolls ended the game with seven hits and six errors. Spring Arbor had 10 hits. Mercedes Munoz led the team with two hits.

Trinity plays next on March 5 against Lourdes University and Cornerstone University.
