Trolls Split with Trojans

In a conference double-header at Trinity International University (Deerfield, Illinois) the Trolls split results.  Trinity’s rallying effort in the first game was too little and too late. They scored in the 7th inning, but it was not enough and they fell with a 3-1 final.  In the second game The Trolls had the lead only to have the Trojans tie the game at 5-5 in the bottom of the 7th. Trinity scored three runs in the top of the 8th and limited Trinity International to one run in the bottom to take an 8-6 win. The Trolls are now 10-14 overall and 3-9 in the CCAC.

In the first game the Trolls had a couple of good opportunities to score, but could not get a runner across the plate. After giving up one run in the 2nd inning and two in the 4th inning, they trailed 3-0 heading into the 7th inning.

Katelyn Sena opened the final inning with a hit and was brought home on a single by Emily Phillips to put the Trolls on the board. Trinity had a couple of runners on base when the inning ended and the team took the loss.

The Trolls had eight hits for the game and Trinity International had four. Alisson Ramirez recorded three of those hits and Sena had two.

In the second game the teams kept the base path busy as each team had 12 hits. After three innings the Trolls trailed 3-2, but they took the top spot in the top of the 4th with three runs. One of those runs scored on a single by Ramirez and the other two on a single by Jamie Budreau.

Trinity International closed the gap in the 5th inning with a run to make it 5-4. The Trojans rallied in the bottom of the 7th to get the tying run and force extra innings.

The Trolls came up big in the 8th inning with the hits and runs they needed.  A triple by Katie Shoulta scored one run and got things going. With two more hits in the inning the Trolls continued to move runners around the base path to make it 8-5 after their at bat. A couple of errors allowed the Trojans to stay alive in the bottom half and to score one run, but the Trolls were able to shut them down and take the 8-6 win.

For the game Trinity was led by Ramirez who had four hits and three RBI.  Shoulta registered three hits and two RBI. Dara Megyesi pitched the eight innings for the win.

The Trolls continued conference play on April 11 in a home double-header with Cardinal Stritch University at 3 pm.
