Trinity Defeats Robert Morris

The Trolls got their first conference wins of the season with a pair of one-run victories over Robert Morris University (Chicago, Illinois). Trinity took the lead early in the first game and held the Eagles off for a 5-4 win.  The Trolls got the hit they needed in the second game to post a 2-1 victory.  With the wins the team ended an eight game losing streak and improves to 8-12 overall and 2-8 in the CCAC.

The Trolls gave up one run on a solo homer in the 1st inning of the game one, but came right back with five hits for two runs in the bottom half to take the lead. The Trolls continued to attack the base path and scored one run in each the 3rd and 4th innings for a 4-1 lead.

Robert Morris scored in the 6th inning, but Trinity took advantage of an error in the bottom half to get that one back. The Eagles smacked a double in the top of the 7th inning to bring two runs across the plate to close the gap to 5-4 before the Trolls put an end to that comeback.

Trinity had a total of 10 hits of which Jamie Budreau and Katelyn Sena each had two. Robert Morris ended the game with six hits. Jenna Steinkamp pitched the seven innings for the win.

Trinity took the early lead in the second game when Budreau singled in the 1st inning and scored on an error to give the Trolls the 1-0 advantage. Both teams had limited number of base runners in the middle innings and the 1-0 score held through the 5th.

The Eagles opened the 6th inning with a triple and eventually scored that runner to tie the game. The Trolls answered in the bottom with a lead-off home run by Budreau to put the team back on top. It was three up and three down for Robert Morris in the top of the 7th and Trinity walked away with the win.

The Trolls had six hits for the game and the Eagles had three. Budreau led the team with three hits.  Dara Megyesi threw the complete game for the win.

The team is schedule to play next on April 7 in a non-conference double-header at Elmhurst College at 3 pm.
