Trolls Defeated by Tigers

The Trolls continued their conference action in a double-header at Olivet Nazarene University (Bourbonnais, Illinois).  Trinity struck early in the first game, but could not sustain their scoring and ended in a 10-2 loss in the 5th inning on the mercy rule.  Olivet Nazarene took an early lead in the second game and shut-out the Trolls with a 4-0 final. Trinity is now 6-10 for the season and 0-6 in the CCAC.

The Trolls took advantage of three Olivet Nazarene errors, a double by Jamie Budreau, and a single by Katelyn Sena to score two runs in the 1st inning to take the early lead. The Tigers gained one of those runs back in the bottom half.

The next three innings for the Trolls went quickly as the Trolls were three up and three down.  The Tigers were limited in base runners until the bottom of the 4th when they kept the base path busy. Olivet Nazarene scored five runs in that at-bat to take a 6-2 lead.

In the top of the 5th Trinity threatened with runners on second and third, but did not score. Olivet Nazarene recorded hits in their first three batters in the bottom half to get two more runs to make the gap six. Later in the inning they had runners in scoring position when they hit a double to score those two runs and end the game on the mercy rule.

The Trolls ended the game with three hits and four errors while the Tigers had 10 hits and three errors.

In the second game Trinity struggled to get the offensive going and only had a total of three runners on base through the first five innings. Olivet Nazarene on the other hand struck early with five hits in the bottom of the 1st inning for three runs. They added one more run in the 2nd to take a 4-0 lead.

After the second inning the Trolls held the Tigers, but the damaged had been done. Trinity’s best opportunity to gain ground came in the 6th inning when they loaded the bases. However they came up empty and when they went three up and three down in the 7th the game ended in the 4-0 shut-out.

Overall the Trinity had three hits and two errors for the game and Olivet Nazarene had seven hits.

The Trolls play next at home on March 30 in a 3 pm double-header with Saint Xavier University.
