Student-Athlete Spotlight: Emily Phillips

Emily Philips ’17 has played a major role on the Trinity softball team the past three years and she is looking to finish off her career as a Troll by having her best season yet.  Emily is highly motivated as an athlete and as a student.  Her determination has helped her succeed on the softball diamond and also, as a biology and chemistry double major, thrive in the science labs.

Emily has started her senior season hitting the ball very well and is currently leading the team with a .444 batting average and a .593 slugging percentage. She also has eight RBIs and 12 hits, of which three have been multiple base hits. Her ability to get on base has been a constant factor for the Trolls in the past three seasons as Emily has a .313 career batting average.

Playing second base or right fielder, Emily is living her role as a senior leader with her play on the field and her impact on her fellow players. She is a positive and encouraging presence on the team and is appreciated by her teammates and coaches.

Emily knows how to keep herself busy. Her class load is heavy with her double science majors as well as working in as an assistant in the chemistry lab.  Her goal is to continue to her education and study medicine with the goal of becoming a pediatric oncologist.

Emily knows her busy lifestyle might seem crazy to some, but she wouldn’t trade it for anything.  “Overall, it hasn't been too difficult balancing a heavy academic schedule with softball,” Emily comments. “I like being busy and working hard at both school and softball. I wanted to leave my four years here knowing that I had done everything that I possibly could have, and I feel like I have done just that.”

The 2017 Trolls softball season is picking up steam with their home opener being this Saturday, March 25, against Judson University.
