Trolls Make It a Two Win Day

Playing in night games the Trolls picked up two victories in their third day of action at the PFX Spring Games in Clermont, Florida. The team first faced Lourdes University (Sylvania, Ohio) and came away with a 7-5 win.  Their second game was an 8-0 mercy rule win over Fisher College (Boston, Massachusetts). The Trolls are now 4-2 in the spring break trip.

Against Lourdes the Trolls gave up two runs in the bottom of the 1st inning, but took over the lead in the top of the 2nd. With two runners already across the play and bases loaded, Jamie Budreau doubled bring the three runners in and put the Trolls ahead at 5-2.

The three run scoring gap held until the bottom of the 6th when Lourdes hit a three-run homer to tie the score. The Trolls came right back in their next at bat with two runs to regain the lead. Mercedes Munoz opened with a double which was followed by bunt hits by Katelyn Sena and Emily Phillips to score one run. Another ball put into play brought the second run across the plate to make it 7-5. The team held Lourdes to three up and three down in the bottom half to secure their victory.

The Trolls had 10 hits for the game with Melinda Russell, Jenna Steinkamp, and Phillips each recording two. Budreau led the team with three RBI. Dara Megyesi pitched the complete game for the win.  

The second game of the day was a second meeting with Fisher and a second mercy rule win after five innings. The Trolls took control of the game in the 1st inning with six runs of which half were scored on a home run by  Munoz.  The 6-0 lead held until the 4th inning when Trinity added two more to go ahead by eight runs. The Trolls kept Fisher off the base path in the top of the 5th inning and the game ended on the mercy rule.

For the game Trinity had six hits of which Budreau had two with two RBI. Munoz led the team with three RBI. Steinkamp allowed only three base runners the entire game and records the shut-out win.

The Trolls will finish their Spring Break trip on March 10 with a 1 pm EST game against Cornerstone University and a 3:30 pm EST game with Marian University.
