Trolls Battle with Tigers

On paper the conference game between the Trolls and the Tigers of Olivet Nazarene University (Bourbonnais, Illinois) should have been a close game, but in reality it was tightly contested. The Trolls were grossly out-shot, but they did not allow the Tigers to translate those shots to goals. In the end it was a late game goal by Olivet Nazarene that made the difference and handed the Trolls the 3-2 loss. The team is now 3-8-1 overall and 1-4 in the CCAC.

In the first period Olivet Nazarene took 19 shots at the goal and Trinity had three. The Tigers found the net for the first time 16 minutes into the game when they scored off a free kick. It was that goal that stood at the half as the teams headed into the intermission with the 1-0 score.

Trinity quickly found the equalizer in the second period when Getenet Timmermans scored on an assist from Alejandro Sotelo three minutes into the period.  Olivet, who more than tripled the number of shots taken by the Trolls in the period, went back ahead in the 66th minute.

The Trolls continued to push and in the 82nd minute they tied the game again. This time Sotelo fed the ball to Fekadu Timmermans for the goal.  The deadlock did not last long as Olivet Nazarene scored two minutes later to regain the lead.  Trinity did what they could in the final six minutes, but could not keep the game alive.

Trinity ended the game with six shots and Olivet Nazarene had 30. The Tigers also had 13 corner kicks while the Trolls had one. Mathis Muller was in the goal with 10 saves.

The team plays next at home on October 7 in a conference game with Roosevelt University at 2:30 pm.
