Trolls Battle to Draw with V-Hawks

It was a back and forth game that lasted for 110 minutes of play and ended in a tie as the Trolls hosted Viterbo University (LaCrosse, Wisconsin).  At the half each team had scored one goal. The Trolls took a 3-1 advantage in the first 15 minutes of the second half, but Viterbo came back to score the next two goals to tie the game. Each team had opportunities in the overtime periods, but the score remained 3-3 at the end of play. Trinity is now 2-4-1 for the season.

The game got interesting in the opening 15 minutes when tackle in the box  led to a red card by Trinity’s goalkeeper and left the Trolls without their starter and a man short for the remainder of the game. That foul also gave Viterbo a penalty kick and their first goal.

The Trolls got the equalizer in the 33rd minute when Tate Rozeveld crossed the ball to Getenet Timmermans who took a couple of dribbles and found the net.

Eight minutes into the second period the Trolls went ahead when Alejandro Sotelo scored on an assist from Gabriel Soler.  Three minutes later Timmermans struck again and a flip pass by Sotelo.

The Trolls’ 3-1 lead only lasted for five minutes when Viterbo scored to close the gap. In the 75th minute the V-Hawks got the look they needed on a corner kick to tie the game.

Through the rest of regulation and into the two overtime periods the teams continued to attack. There were near misses and shots that ricocheted off the posts, but none found the net and the teams left the field in a draw.

The Trolls took a total of 19 shots for the game and Viterbo had 14. Rob Oostindie was in the goal for 95 minutes with four saves.

Trinity begins their conference schedule on September 19 at Cardinal Stritch University at 2 pm.
