Trolls Miss Final Cut
The men’s golf team lost ground on the second day of competition at the NCCAA National Championship in Panama City Beach, Florida, and dropped out of the top nine teams that advance to the final round. The Trolls entered the day in eighth place, but with a team total of 332 in the second round they finished in 10th place of the 12 teams. Overall the Trolls posted a two-day total of 655.
Even though the team did not advance on, Steven Massey will compete again in the third round. Placing in the top 25 after two rounds, he earned the right to continue in the tournament. Massey had a steady performance with a 79 on each day. On the second day he moved up from a tie for 26th place to 25th place in the field of 65 golfers.
Also making gains in the second round was Matt Dail. After Monday’s round he was in a tie for 51st place, but he came back with a 79 to end in a tie for 48th place. His second round was a seven stroke gain over his first round.
Jonathan Zandstra shot a 77 in the first round and was tied for 15th. He was not able to repeat that performance and posted an 87 on the second day to end tied for 46th. Alek Svabek shot rounds of 81 and 87 and dropped to a 53rd place tie. Jim Vos improved his score by five strokes for a 90 in the second round. He ended in a tie for 63rd.
