Day One of NCCAA National Golf Championship

Qualifying as the North Central Region champions, the men’s golf team is participating in the NCCAA National Championship in Panama City Beach, Florida. The Trolls are one of 12 teams that are taking on “the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly” courses at Hombre Golf Club. After the first round of the two-day 36 hole qualifying format, the Trolls are in eighth place overall with a team total of 323.   

As a team the Trolls are seven strokes out of seventh place and four strokes ahead of the ninth place team.  They will need to stay in the top nine teams in order to advance the third and final round on Wednesday.

The team leader on day one is Jonathan Zandstra, who shot a five-over 77, and is in a tie for 15th place of the 65 total golfers.  For the day he had 12 pars and one birdie.  

Steven Massey ended the first round with a 79 and is tied for 26th place. Alek Svabek is two strokes back from Massey with an 81 and is in a group of golfers in 36th place.

The final two golfers for the team are Matt Dail with an 86 and in a tie for 51st place and Jim Vos with a 95 and in a tie for 63rd.
