Trolls Fall to Eagles

In a conference game the Trolls faced Robert Morris University (Chicago, Illinois). Trinity fell behind in the opening minutes and had to fight from behind the rest of the contest. At the half the team trailed by 13 points at 49-36. Trinity closed to the gap in the second period only to have the Eagles surge ahead again and hand the Trolls a 97-83 loss.

In the opening minutes of the game Robert Morris took a lead that extended to nine points. On an eight point run the Eagles increased that gap to 15 points with eight minutes left in the half.  The Trolls made up some ground and with one minute left they were within seven points. However Robert Morris scored the final six points of the period to put the Trolls in a 49-36 deficit at the half.

The Trolls quickly pulled to within seven points in the first three minutes of the second half. They did not score again for next three minutes and were down again by 15 points. The Trolls continued to remain behind by double digits until a 9-to-2 run cut the gap to nine points midway through the period.  Trinity could not get any closer as the Eagles went ahead by as many as 17 with three minutes left. The Trolls pushed to the end, but could not cut into the Eagles’ lead.

Trinity ended the game with a .403 field goal percentage, a .333 three-point percentage, and a .842 free throw percentage. Robert Morris shot .475 percent from the floor, .333 percent from the arc, and .565 percent from the line. The Trolls had 46 rebounds and the Eagles had 45. The Trolls had four players in double figure scoring. Patrick Bray led the Trolls with 18, Joshua Shannon had 16, TJ Lacey added 14, and Myles Birgans had 10. Shannon was the high rebounder with nine while Lacey handed our eight assists.

The Trolls play again on February 6 at the University of St. Francis at 7 pm.
