Trinity Defeated by Red Raiders

In the second day of action in the Saint Xavier University Thanksgiving Classic, the Trolls were matched against Northwestern College (Orange City, Iowa). The game was tight until the final few minutes of the first half when the Red Raiders went ahead by double digits and took a 56-41 half-time lead.  The Trolls could not make a dent in that deficit in the second half and ended in an 89-73 loss. The team is now 3-8 for the season.

With both teams shooting over .500 percent in the first period the points were flowing.  The large majority of Northwestern’s points came in from beyond the arc as they made 15 treys to account for score 45 of their 56 first half points.

Through the first 13 minutes of the game the teams were never separated by more than a handful of points.  Ahead by one point at 29-28 with seven minutes to play, the Trolls were out-scored 16-to-3 over the next four minutes to fall behind by 12 points. The gap got as wide as 17 points before the 15 point difference at the intermission.

The scoring and shooting percentages died down in the second period for both teams. The Trolls continued to play hard and with eight minutes left in the game they cut the difference to nine points on a three-pointer by Myles Birgans.  However that was as close as they got as the Red Raiders went back on top by double digits. By the game’s end the final scoring gap was 16 points.

For the game the Trolls shot .424 percent from the field, .391 percent from the three-point line, and .824 percent from the free throw line. Northwestern was .474 percent accurate from the field, .484 percent from the arc, connecting on 15-of-25 three-point attempts in the first half, and .769 percent from the charity stripe. Trinity had 30 rebounds and Northwestern had 38. Terrance Lacey led the team with 13 points while Jalyn Clark had 11 and Vinko Glavan had 10. Joshua Shannon led the rebounding with seven.

The Trolls return to conference play on November 28 in a home contest with the University of St. Francis at 7:30 pm.
