Trolls Eke Out Win Over East-West

The Trolls had an exciting victory in the first night of the Saint Xavier University Thanksgiving Classic.  Taking on East-West University (Chicago, Illinois), Trinity took a slight lead in the first period and had a 38-35 advantage at the half. The Trolls went ahead by as many as 10 in the second period, but had to hold on in the final minutes and they ended with a one-point win at 79-78.

In the early part of the game the score was tied four times before Trinity took a six point lead midway through the half. The scoring gap widened to nine points with six minutes left at 32-23. However East-West finished the half on a 12-to-6 run and left the Trolls with only a three point lead, 38-35, at the half.

East-West took the lead in the opening seven minutes of the second half, but on a trey by Patrick Bray the Trolls went ahead by 51-50. Trinity continued to hold a slight edge for the next several minutes. On a 10 point run the Trolls took a 10 point lead with four minutes to play at 70-60. The team still had that double-digit advantage with 2:47 to play. However they did not score for the next 2:30 minutes and the Phantoms cut the gap to one point, 75-74, with one minute left to play.

The Trolls scored the next for points to build the gap to five. East-West nailed a three with 14 seconds left to cut the difference to two. After a technical foul by the Trolls for hanging on the rim, the Phantoms gained one more point on a free throw. They also had the last look, but missed their attempt and the Trolls walked away with the one-point win.

Trinity ended the game with a.517 field goal percentage, a .364 three-point percentage, and a .682 field goal percentage. East-West shot .395 percent from the field, .250 percent from the arc, and .875 percent from the line. The Trolls ended the game with 36 rebounds and the Phantoms had 45. Vinko Glavan led the team with 20 points and four rebounds. Josh Decker had 12 points and six rebounds and Terrance Lacey had 12 points and five boards. Joshua Shannon led the rebounding with eight.   

In the second day of the Classic the Trolls will play against Northwestern College (IA) at 12 pm.
