Trinity Loses at Marian

The Trolls were challenged in a road game as they played at NAIA preseason ranked No. 8 Marian University (Indianapolis, Indiana).  After an early tie, Trinity gave up the lead and never regained it. The scoring gap hit double digits midway through the first period and at the half the Trolls trailed 47-26. The team continued to lose ground in the second period and ended in a lopsided 95-55 loss. The Trolls are now 2-3 for the season.

The Trolls answered the first two baskets that Marian made for a 4-4 tie in the opening minute. Marian took the lead on a free throw and held it for the rest of the game.  An 8-to-0 run by the Knights created a 22-12 deficit for the Trolls midway through the period. That scoring gap continued to increase when the Trolls only scored three points in the final three minutes of the half and were down by 21, 47-26, at the half.

Trinity continued to lose ground in the second half and midway through the period they trailed by 37 points.  Shooting .516 percent in the half and making 15-of-17 free throws, Marian created more distance to the eventual 40 point difference by the game’s end.

The Trolls shot .344 percent from the floor, .389 percent from the arc, and .667 percent (4-of-6) from the line. Marian was .477 percent from the field, .263 percent from the three-point line, and .903 percent (28-of-31) from the charity stripe. Trinity had 36 rebounds to Marian’s 43. The Trolls also committed 21 turnovers. Jalyn Clark lead the team with 14 points while Josh Decker and Patrick Bray each had 11. Decker also had seven rebounds, as did Joshua ShannonTerrance Lacey handed out five assists.

Trinity hosts the Troll Classic on November 9-10. The team plays Lawrence Tech at 8 pm on Friday and takes on Dayspring Bible College in an exhibition game on Saturday at 2 pm.
