Trolls Win in Home Opener

Playing at home for the first time this season, the Trolls pleased the Fall Fest crowd with a victory over Silver Lake College (Manitowoc, Wisconsin). The team came on strong the final minutes of the first period to build a 20 point half-time lead at 59-39. They maintained their double-digit lead through the majority of the second half until Silver Lake made a run at the end of the game to cut into the margin. In the end the Trolls walked away with a 97-88 win. Trinity is now 2-2 for the season.

Through the first 12 minutes of the game the score was tight with Trinity holding a slight advantage for most of that time. With four minutes left in the period Trinity held a 43-35 lead. In the remainder of the half they out-scored Silver Lake 16-to-4 to end the half with a 20 point lead.

Trinity continued to maintain their sizable lead through the first seven minutes of the second period. Silver Lake was not going to go away and cut the difference to six points with 11:27 left. The Trolls quickly recovered and had the gap back to 16 points, 88-72, with seven minutes left. The Lakers once again made a run and in the final minute were within six points at 94-88. The Trolls connected on 3-of-4 free throws in the final seconds for the win.

Trinity shot .605 percent from the field in the first period and ended with a .507 field goal percentage. They were 10-of-23 from the arc and 17-of-21 from the line. Silver Lake shot .460 percent from the floors, made only six three-pointers in 24 attempts, and was 24-of-35 from the charity stripe. The Trolls had 40 rebounds and the Lakers had 33.

Six Trinity players were in double digit scoring. Josh Decker led the way with 10 points, seven rebounds, five assists, and three steals. Terrance Lacey had 18 points, six rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Patrick Bray added 14 points, and Jalyn Clark, Joshua Shannon, and Myles Birgans each had 10 points.

The Trolls play next on November 6 at Marian University.
