Trolls Take Down Bees

The Trolls had a good night in their final game of the season in front of their home crowd in the DeVos Gymnasium. The team was able to celebrate Senior Night with a victory over St. Ambrose University (Davenport, Iowa). The Trolls scored the first basket and did not give up the lead for the entire game. At the half they were ahead by eight and in the end they took an 86-75 win. The team is 8-21 for the season and 4-15 in the CCAC.

Getting production from five different seniors in the opening five minutes, the Trolls took a 15-7 lead. Midway through the period the Fighting Bees had closed the gap to three points, but Trinity answered with an eight point run to open it up to 11 at 32-21. Over the next three minutes St. Ambrose again closed the gap and was within four, but Trinity came right back to go head by double-digits. By the half the lead was eight points at 44-36.

The second half also saw ebb and flow as St. Ambrose would make a charge only to have the Trolls hold them off and take over again. With 13 minutes in the period the difference was one point, 50-49, but Trinity only allowed St. Ambrose one point in the next two minutes while they scored seven.

With six minutes to play the scoring gap was again at one, 66-65, but the Trolls took control on a 14-to-4 run to go ahead by 11 points at 80-69 with 2:40 to play. The team kept their double digit lead in the final minutes and captured the 11 point win.

Trinity shot .484 percent from the field, .400 percent from the arc, and .933 percent from the line. St. Ambrose was .455 percent from the floor, .176 percent from the three-point line, and .750 percent from the charity stripe. The Trolls gathered 26 rebounds and the Fighting Bees has 35. Leading the Trolls was Caleb Jonkman with 27 points. Nari Garrett had 14 points and seven rebounds. Jouzas Balciunas also ended with 15 points and had five assists. Nate Hurt added 13 points.

The Trolls will play in the final game of their season on February 17 at Roosevelt University at 3 pm.
