Trolls Battle with Fighting Saints

In a home conference contest the Trolls faced the University of St. Francis (Joliet, Illinois). Trinity fell behind in the first half and at the intermission they trailed by 12 points, 34-22. The team made up ground in the second period and closed to within two points late in the game. However they could not completely erase the deficit and ended with a 63-54 loss. Trinity is 7-20 for the season and 3-14 in the CCAC.

Trinity scored first and took the early lead in the game. They held the top spot for six minutes before the Saints tied the game.  With 12:30 to play in the period the Trolls lost the lead and did not get it back for the remainder of the game.   The scoring gap was minimal for the majority of the period until a seven point run by St. Francis created an 11 point difference at 29-18. By the half the difference was 12.

The Trolls continued to play hard and chip away at the St. Francis lead. Midway through the period they went on an eight points run behind two treys by Aaron Johnson to make if a three point game at 42-39. With five minutes left, Nate Hurt hit a three-pointer and followed it with a free throw to put the Trolls within two points at 52-50. The Trolls could not hold that momentum and gave up the next seven points. It was that nine point gap that held at the end of the game.

Trinity shot .365 percent for the game, .333 percent from the arc, and .714 percent from the line. St. Francis was .489 percent from the floor, .286 percent from the three-point line, and .833 percent from the charity stripe. The Trolls had 24 rebounds and the Saints had 35. Hurt led the team with 17 points while Caleb Jonkman had 15. Nari Garrett ended the game with 10 rebounds and Jouzas Balciunas had four.

The Trolls continue conference play on February 10 in a game at Olivet Nazarene University.
