Trinity Denied by Robert Morris

The Trolls put up a good fight against the Eagles of Robert Morris University (Chicago, Illinois) in a conference match-up. Late in the first half Trinity fell behind by double digits and was down 44-33 at the half. In the second half each team scored 28 points to make the final score an 11-point difference at 72-61. With the loss the Trolls are 7-18 for the season and 3-12 in the CCAC.

Neither team took control in the early part of the game. Five minutes into the first period the Trolls had a slight advantage with an 11-7 lead until Robert Morris scored the next 11 points to take over at 18-11. The Trolls rallied back and, with ten minutes to play, had tied the score at 18-18. The game was tied twice more after that until Robert Morris took over the top spot. With 2:36 left in the period the Eagles were up by six, but by the end of the half it was a 44-33 game.

Twice in the opening 11 minutes of the second period the Trolls cut the difference to six points. The Trolls again had it to six at 58-52 with 7:30 to play. The Eagles knocked down a couple of threes and the Trolls could not get their attempts to fall and the gap widen to 14 at 66-52. In the final five minutes Trinity got as close as nine points, but they could not erase the deficit.

For the game Trinity shot .442 percent from the field, .333 percent from the arc, and .467 percent from the line. Robert Morris was .471 percent from the floor, .462 percent from the three-point line, and .750 percent from the free throw line. The Trolls had 29 rebounds and Robert Morris had 36. Juozas Balciunas led the team with 22 points. Nari Garrett had a double double of 14 points and 12 rebounds. Caleb Jonkman added 11 points.

The Trolls are next in action on February 3 at Cardinal Stritch University at 3 pm.
