Trinity Loses to Calumet-St. Joseph

Coming off a conference victory in their last outing, the Trolls were looking to string together a pair of wins as they hosted Calumet College of St. Joseph (Whiting, Indiana).  It was not to be for Trinity as they fell 77-61. The team trailed throughout most of the game and could not get the run needed to generate some momentum. At the half they were down by 12 and in the end they lost by 16. The team falls to 6-15 overall and 2-9 in the conference.

Trinity scored the first basket of the game, but that was their only lead for the night. Calumet-St. Joseph took an eight point lead early in the first period, but with nine minutes to play the Trolls closed the gap to one point. The Crimson Wave surged ahead on a 10-to-0 run in the next two minutes. For the rest of the period the closest the Trolls got was within seven. At the break the difference was 12 at 43-31.

The Trolls came on strong at the start of the second period and closed the gap to six points. With 12 minutes to play the scoring gap was still at six, 55-49. Over the next five minutes Calumet-St. Joseph outscored the Trolls 11-to-2 to make it a 15 point game. For the remainder of the half the difference stayed in double digits.

Trinity was .439 percent from the field, .250 percent from the arc, and .883 percent from the line. Calumet-St. Joseph ended the game at .469 percent from the floor, .381 percent from the three-point line, and .529 percent from the charity stripe. Trinity had 33 rebounds and Calumet-St. Joseph had 38. Nari Garrett led the team with 19 points, connecting on 8-of-11 shots, and eight rebounds. Caleb Jonkman had 15 points and six rebounds. Erron Hall also grabbed eight rebounds and had four assists.

The Trolls play next on January 20 in a home game with Trinity International University.
