Trinity Battles with Saint Xavier

At the beginning of the second semester the Trolls hosted Saint Xavier University (Chicago, Illinois) in the DeVos Gymnasium in a conference game. Each team had their share of the lead in the early part of the game, but at the half Saint Xavier was ahead by five points at 40-35. The Trolls continued to trail  throughout the second half and ended in an 80-69 loss.  With the defeat Trinity falls to 5-14 overall and 1-8 in the CCAC.

The lead flipped back and forth in the first part of the game and at the midway point of the first period the teams were deadlocked at 17-17. The Trolls went on a 14-to-4 run in the next three minutes to go ahead 31-21. Saint Xavier controlled the next final seven minutes of the game and held Trinity to only four more points. At the break the Cougars had a five point lead.

The opening minutes of the second half remained tight until Saint Xavier added 12 points to Trinity’s two to create a 13 point deficit for the Trolls. Twice in the next three minutes Trinity cut the deficit to six points, but with seven minutes to play the gap was back to double digits. It remained there for rest of the game as the Trolls took the 11 point loss.

For the game Trinity was .491 percent accurate from the floor, .273 percent from the arc, and .643 percent from the line. The Cougars shot .537 percent from the field, .500 percent (11-of-22) from the three-point line, and .786 percent from the free throw line. Trinity had a total of 23 rebounds and Saint Xavier had 34. Nari Garrett led the team with 16 points while also collecting five rebounds. Jouzas Balciunas had 15 points and six boards. Nate Hurt added 13 points, five assists, and three steals.

The Trolls will play next on January 13 in a conference game at Indiana University-South Bend at 3 pm EST.
