Trinity Beat by Roosevelt

The Trolls’ attempt to get another conference win came up short in a contest at the DeVos Gymnasium with Roosevelt University (Chicago, Illinois).  Trinity led through the entire first period until Roosevelt tied the score 24-24 before the half. The Lakers took over the top spot in the second half and built a double digit lead. The Trolls rallied back, but came up five points short with a 62-57 loss. The team falls to 5-11 overall and 1-6 in the CCAC.

Trinity started the game on a 10-to-2 run to take the lead. Eight minutes in, on three free throws by Nate Hurt, the Trolls had a 15-4 advantage. Roosevelt slowly cut in into that lead and with four minutes left they had the gap to two. Trinity scored the next five points for a 24-17 lead with 2:41 to play. They did not score again before the half and Roosevelt had the final seven points to make it 24-24 at the break.

After trading a couple of baskets to start the second period, Roosevelt went on an 8-to-0 run to take over the lead at 36-29. With nine minutes left the gap was 11 points at 47-36. Roosevelt continued to stay on top and with one minute to play had a 56-46 lead. Juozas Balcuinas gave the Trolls a boost with three treys in the final minute to help cut the deficit to four points. However the Lakers did what they needed to do from the line to keep their lead.

For the game the Trolls shot .442 percent from the floor, .429 percent from the arc, and .909 percent from the line. Roosevelt had a .444 field goal percentage, a .188 three-point percentage, and a .792 free throw percentage. Trinity had 24 rebounds and Roosevelt had 28. Balciunas led the team with 19 points and four assists. Caleb Jonkman added 13 points and Nari Garrett had 11 to go with his six rebounds.

The team plays next on December 21 at 7 pm against East West University in a game at South Suburban College.
