Trolls Lose to Fighting Bees

In a road game the Trolls traveled to take on conference opponent St. Ambrose University (Davenport, Iowa).  Each team had their share of the lead and went on runs to keep the score interesting. Trinity trailed 36-30 at the half and fell behind by double digits in the second half. They tied the game in the final minutes of the second half, but could not get the top spot and ended with a 76-65 loss. The Trolls are now 5-9 for the season and 1-5 in the CCAC.

The opening minutes of the game were close, but at the midway point of the first half the Trolls had the slight edge.  With nine minutes left the score became tied at 18-18 and a minute later St. Ambrose took the top spot. The Fighting Bees maintained their lead and on an 8-to-1 run in the final five minutes of the half they put the Trolls in an 11 point deficit at 36-25. Trinity cut the gap to six points at 36-30 at the break.

In the second period the Fighting Bees kept the top spot and with 14 minutes left they had the difference to double digits at 50-39. St. Ambrose went ahead by as many as 15 points and with 11 minutes to play had a 60-46 advantage. The Trolls fought back and went on a 14-to-0 run over the next five and a half minutes to tie the score at 60-60. St. Ambrose scored the next basket to regain the lead.

The Trolls scored only two points over the next five minutes and with under a minute to play the scoring difference was back to double digits. A trey by Juozas Balciunas cut it to seven, but St. Ambrose was good at the line in the waning seconds to h0ld the Trolls off.
 
Trinity shot .362 percent from the floor, was .321 percent from the arc, and connected on 1.000 percent of their free throws.  St. Ambrose was .483 percent from the floor, .280 percent from the three-point line, and .929 percent from the charity stripe. The Trolls ended the game with 27 rebounds and the Bees had 40.  Caleb Jonkman led the team with 26 points, four rebounds, and five assists. Also scoring in double digits was Nate Hurt with 11 and Balciunas with 10.

The Trolls play next in a non-conference game on December 13 at Indiana University-Northwest at 7 pm.
