Trolls Get Win at St. Francis

The Trolls got their first conference win of the season in a game at the University of St. Francis (Joliet, Illinois). Except for a brief stretch in the second half, the Trolls held the lead. Trinity posted a 38-31 advantage at the half and the final score reflected that seven point difference with a 73-66 final. The team improves to 4-7 overall and 1-3 in the CCAC.

The Trolls opened with three-pointers by Caleb Jonkman and Juozas Balciunas to take a 6-0 lead in the first minute.  Five minutes later they had increased their lead to nine points at 14-5. Saint Francis closed the gap to one point, but the Trolls did not give up the top spot. On an eight point run the Trolls built a 12 point lead and at the half were up by seven at 38-31.

Trinity continued to hold the lead in the second half until St. Francis tied the score at 50-50 with 11 minutes to play. With 5:30 left a trey by Balciunas put the Trolls back on top for good.  

With under a minute left Saint Francis scored on two free throws to make it 68-66. Trinity missed their next shot attempt, but Nari Garrett was there for the rebound and put it to give the Trolls a 70-66 lead with 31 seconds to play.  St. Francis failed to score on their final shot attempts and the Trolls finished strong at the free throw line to secure their lead.

For the game the Trolls shot .520 percent from the floor and were .500 percent accurate from the arc at 16-of-32. St. Francis shot .423 percent from the floor and .240 percent from the three-point line. Trinity had 22 rebounds and St. Francis had 34. Balciunas led the team with 23 points, connecting on 6-of-9 three-pointers. He also had four assists. Jonkman added 21 points of which 18 came from the arc. Garrett ended the game with 13 points and five rebounds and Nate Hurt had 12 points and seven assists.

The Trolls continue conference play on December 2 in a 3 pm home game with Olivet Nazarene University.
