Trolls Beat by Dordt

The trip to northwest Iowa to play in the Dordt College Classic did not produce great results for the Trolls as they fell in both of their games. In the second day of action Trinity faced the host school and the game got away from them in the first half. The Trolls trailed 46-23 at the break and ended in a 91-47 loss. The team is now 3-7 for the season.

In the opening five minutes of the game Dordt went on a 13-to-2 run to take over the lead and forced the Trolls to play catch up for the rest of the game. Over the next four minutes Trinity closed the gap to five points, but by the midway point of the half the gap was back to double digits. With five minutes to play the Trolls were down 28-19, but they added only four more points, all from the free throw line, in the remaining time. Dordt finished those five minutes with 18 more points and had doubled the Trolls’ score at 46-23 at half-time.

In the second half the Trolls continued to lose ground and the scoring difference grew.  A number of players got into the game as Trinity tried to get something going. However they were not able to change the flow of the game.

The Trolls struggled from the floor and shot .378 percent overall and hit only 1-of-11 three-point attempts. Dordt shot .484 percent from the field and made 16-of-33 from the arc. Trinity was out-rebounded by six and had 27 turnovers.  The high scorers for the Trolls were Nari Garrett and Caleb Jonkman with eight each. Jonkman also had seven rebounds. Terrance Lacey ended the game with three assists and Nate Hurt and Jalyn Clark each had three steals.

Trinity returns to conference action on November 29 in a game at the University of St. Francis at 7 pm.
