Trinity Struggles Against Northwestern

The Trolls opened play in the Dordt College Classic in Sioux Center, Iowa in a game with No. 5 Northwestern College (Orange City, Iowa).  Trinity trailed through the majority of the game and the score got lopsided at the end. At the half the difference was ten points at 41-31, but the Trolls could not contain the Red Raiders in the second half and ended in a 101-69 loss.

In the first half Northwestern took a double digit lead eight minutes into the game and at with 11:36 to play they had doubled the Trolls score at 22-11. Trinity went on a run to score the next seven points to decrease the gap to four. However, before the half ended Northwestern was back ahead by 10 double digits at 41-31.

The point spread stayed in double digits in the second period and with 12:25 to play the score was 66-46. Trinity continued to lose ground in the remaining team as the Red Raiders stayed accurate from the floor, hit the long ball, and use the charity stripe in their favor. With 7:34 to play the difference was 30 points and it was 32 at the game’s end.

For the game Trinity shot .419 percent from the field, .240 percent from the arc, and .786 percent from the line. Northwestern was .574 percent from the floor, .500 percent from the three-point line (15-for-30), and .923 percent from the line (24-for-26). Trinity had 22 rebounds and Northwestern had 40.  Caleb Jonkman led the team with 25 points, Nari Garrett had 12, and Juozas Balciunas had eight points.

The Trolls will face Dordt in the second day of the Classic at 2 pm on Saturday, November 25.
