Trolls Give Eagles a Fight

The Trolls nearly upset No. 12 Robert Morris University (Chicago, Illinois) in a road conference game. It was a tale of two halves as Trinity scored only 19 points in the first half and trailed by 10 at the break. They more than made up for it in the second half with 45 points. The game came down to the final seconds and in the end the Trolls were two points shy with a 66-64 loss. The team is now 3-4 overall and 0-2 in the CCAC.

Midway through the first period the Trolls and the Eagles were tied at 11-11, but Trinity did not score for the next three minutes and fell behind by eight points. The Trolls made up some ground and with four minutes left in the period were down by three at 19-22. However Trinity did not score again in the half and trailed 29-19 at the intermission.

Trinity came out firing at the beginning of the second half and behind the efforts of three treys had the gap to within one at 33-32. Over the next four minutes Robert Morris went ahead by 10 points and with 9:23 to play the scoring gap was 12 at 57-45.

The Trolls continued to attack and, on a jumper by Juozas Balciunas, they took over the lead at 61-60 with 3:20 to play. That score held until less than one minute left when Robert Morris connected on a trey to go ahead. In the final seconds the Eagles hit two free throws to make it a five point game, but the Trolls cut it back to two on a lay-up by Caleb Jonkman.  Back on the line, the Eagles made of one of two to increase the gap to three. The Trolls had the last opportunity as Nate Hurt was at the charity stripe, but he connected on one of his three attempts and the team came up short.

The Trolls ended the game with a .464 field goal percentage and Robert Morris was a .379 percent. Trinity had 32 rebounds and the Eagles had 34. Jonkman led the scoring with 26 points and he also had four rebounds. Nari Garret posted a double double of 14 points and 10 rebounds. Balciunas ended with 13 points and four rebounds.

The Trolls play next in a conference game at home on November 21 at 7 pm against Cardinal Stritch University.
