Trinity Beat by Governors State

The Trolls started their conference schedule in a game at Governors State University (University Park, Illinois). Trinity took the early lead, but gave up the top spot and was down 45-33.They fell behind by 20 points in the second half, closed the gap to eight, but ended in a 81-67 loss. The team is 3-3 overall and 0-1 in the CCAC.

The first part of the scoring belonged to the Trolls as they took an 8-2 lead. Seven minutes into the period they were still ahead at 16-9. However over the next two minutes they were out-scored 8-to-0 to fall behind.  Governors State continued to pull ahead and held the Trolls to two points in the next six minutes. By the half the gap was 12 points.

Trinity remained down by double digits in the second period and with 11:30 to play they trailed by 20 points. The Trolls went on a 22-10 run to make it an eight point difference, 71-63, with four minutes to play. The team was still down by eight with two minutes left, but they did not score again in the game for the 14 point loss.

The Trolls shot .542 percent from the floor, .350 percent from the arc, and 1.000 percent from the line. Governor State was .509 percent accurate from the field, .400 percent from the three-point line, and .867 percent from the free-throw line. Trinity had 27 rebounds and the Jaguars had 24. Caleb Jonkman led the team with 23 points and seven rebounds. Also with seven rebounds was Josh Decker. Juouzas Balciunas had 14 points and Aaron Johnson had 11. Nate Hurt handed out four assists.

The team continues conference action on November 18 at Robert Morris University-Illinois at 3 pm.
