Trolls Open Season with Victory

The season opener for the 2017-18 basketball season was a road game at Silver Lake College (Manitowoc, Wisconsin). The Trolls started the year off on a positive note with a commanding 98-59 victory. The Trolls jumped to 56-31 lead after the first half and from there cruised to the 39 point win.

Behind .719 percent shooting in the first half, the Trolls took over the game. They were hot from the arc with seven treys in the period.  Propelling the team to the 56-29 half-time lead was Caleb Jonkman who poured in 28 points in the half.

The second half of the game was never in doubt as the Trolls maintained their comfortable lead. They were able to get a variety of players in the game and have nine players get in the scoring action.

For the game the Trolls ended with a .600 field goal percentage and a .643 three point percentage. They also dominated the boards with 50 rebounds to Silver Lake’s 23. Jonkman led the team with 31 points, connecting on 7-of-9 three-pointers. Ben Brinks ended with a double-double of 19 points and 12 rebounds. Nari Garrett totaled 18 points and six assists. Also in double-figure scoring was Terrance Lacey with 15 points while Nate Hurt had six assists and Josh Decker had seven rebounds.

The Trolls have their first home game on November 4 as they host Calvin College at 3 pm.
