Trinity Handles IU-South Bend

The Trolls and the Titans of Indiana University-South Bend (South Bend, Indiana) entered a conference game at the DeVos Gymnasium tied in the conference standings. While the Titans defeated the Trolls in the first round of CCAC play, the Trolls returned the favor this time around with an 85-63 win.  Trinity controlled the lead throughout the entire game to walk away with the 22 point win. They improved to 11-13 overall and 6-10 in the CCAC.  

Trinity scored the first basket of the game and jumped to a 7-0 start. Five minutes into the period they had a double-digit lead and only continued to pull away as the period progressed. The Trolls were hot offensively with .500 percent shooting and solid defensively as they held the Titans to .207 percent.  Through the first 15 minutes of the half Trinity had given up only 13 points and had a 40-13 lead. At the half the difference was 24 at 47-23.

The Trolls continued to lead by 20+ points through the entire second period.  The Titans improved their offensive production and scored 40 points behind a .542 percent shooting half, but it was not enough to make a dent in the Trolls’ lead.

For the game the Trolls shot .492 percent from the field, .300 percent from the arc, and .750 percent from the line. IU-South Bend was .358 percent in field goals, .161 percent in three-pointers, and .571 percent in free throws. The Trolls took in 45 rebounds and the Titans had 32. Jordan Perry led the team with a double double of 18 points and 17 rebounds. Trey Johnson added 16 points and six boards. Juozas Balciunas had 11 points, all scored in the first half, and four assists. Myles Birgans add 15 points and Caleb Jonkman had seven rebounds.

The Trolls play next on February 4 at the University of St. Francis at 3 pm.
