Trolls Down the Eagles

The Trolls faced off against Judson University (Elgin, Illinois) in a cross-divisional conference battle. Trinity started out strong and owned the first part of the game only to have Judson take over and lead 33-26 at the half. The Trolls nearly doubled their field goal percentage in the second period to take control of the game and finish with a 73-66 win. The team is now 9-14 overall and 5-10 in the CCAC.

Trinity scored the first basket of the game and held the lead for the first 17 minutes.  The scoring gap was as wide a nine points, but Judson cut into the Trolls’ lead and took the top spot with three minutes left in the period. With a three pointer at the buzzer the Eagles had a seven point lead at the half.

Judson started the second half with a basket, but Trinity answered with a 10-point run to take a 36-35 lead.  With 12 minutes left the teams were tied at 44-44 until a 12-to-3 run created a nine-point advantage for the Trolls with eight minutes left. Trinity held Judson to only three points over the next five minutes and increased their lead to 17 points. The Eagles hit four three-pointers in the remaining time to close the gap to the final seven-point difference at the game’s end.

For the game the Trolls shot .475 percent overall from the field, but were .633 percent in the second half. They were .350 percent from the arc and only 8-of-17 from the line. Judson ended with a .383 field goal percentage, a. 313 three-point percentage, and .625 free throw percentage. The Trolls held the advantage on the boards with 43 to Judson’s 38. Jordan Perry led the team with 22 points and seven rebounds. Juozas Balciunas added 16 points and five assists and Myles Birgans had 14 points. Trey Johnson finished with 12 boards and Ben Brinks had nine.

The Trolls continued conference play on February 1 at home against Indiana University-South Bend at 7:30 pm.
