Trolls Get Victory at Calumet-St. Joseph

The Trolls posted another win to make it three in a row. This latest win came in a conference game at Calumet College of St. Joseph (Whiting, Indiana). It was a narrow one-point game at the half, but Trinity held off the Crimson Wave and pulled away in the final minutes for the 63-55 victory. The Trolls are 8-12 overall and 4-8 in the CCAC.

Overall the game was tied seven times and the lead changed hands eight times. Three of those ties came early in the first period. At 10-10 the Trolls went on a 13-to-5 run to pull ahead by eight points. Calumet-St. Joseph closed that gap and with 1:44 left in the period the difference was one-point lead at 28-27. It was that score that held at the half.

The lead went back and forth in the second period with multiple ties and each team taking their turn in the top spot. Calumet- St. Joseph created a 50-50 deadlock with just under five minutes to play, but on the next play the Trolls went ahead on a three-pointer by Jordan Perry. The Trolls out-scored the Crimson Wave 8-to-2 in the next four minutes to go ahead by as many as nine. Calumet-St. Joseph got as close as six points, but the Trolls finished out strong to hold them off.  

Trinity ended the game with a .404 shooting percentage from the floor and a .647 percent from the free throw line. Calumet-St. Joseph was .333 percent from the field and .545 percent from the line. Each team took in 39 rebounds.  The Trolls were led by Perry with 19 points and seven rebounds. Myles Birgans added 13 points and four boards. Jouzas Balciunas was also in double-figure scoring with 11 points while completing his game with five rebounds and six assists. Trey Johnson had nine points and seven boards.

The Trolls continue conference play on January 21 at St. Ambrose University at 3 pm.
