Trinity Limits Purdue-Northwest

The Trolls got back into the win column with a home court victory over Purdue University-Northwest (Hammond, Indiana). Trinity limited the Pride to only 45 points and took a 72-45 win. The team built a 14 point lead in the first period and almost matched that gap in the second period for the 27 point difference at the game’s end. Trinity is now 6-12 for the season and 3-8 in the CCAC.

Trinity held Purdue-Northwest to single digits through the first 10 minutes of the game and created a 22-8 lead. The Pride cut the difference to seven points, but the Trolls went on a 14-to-3 run to make it an 18 point game with three minutes left in the period. Purdue-Northwest scored the final four points for a 36-22 half-time score.

In the second half the Trolls continued to control the scoreboard and midway through the period had a 20 point lead. Trinity rallied off 11-point unanswered points to spread the gap to 28 points. In the final minutes they had the lead to 30 before they finished with the 27 point win.

The Trolls shot .528 percent from the floor, .273 percent from the arc, and .909 from the line. They held the Pride to .365 percent shooting, allowed only one three pointer in 16 attempts, and put Purdue-Northwest on the line 14 times of which they made six throws. Trinity out-rebounded Purdue-Northwest by 10.

The team had four players in double digit scoring with Juozas Balciunas with 19, Jordan Perry and Trey Johnson with 14 each and Caleb Jonkman with 12. Myles Birgans ended the game with nine points, eight rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Balciunas also had five assists and Perry had seven rebounds.

The Trolls play next on January 14 in a non-conference game at Silver Lake College at 3 pm.
