Trolls Get Victory Against East West

The Trolls stopped a four game losing streak with a non-conference win over East-West University (Chicago, Illinois). Facing the Phantoms for the first time in six seasons, the Trolls stretched a two point half-time lead to a 12 point spread in the second period. In the end Trinity won by eight at 91-83. The team is 3-9 for the season.

Trinity shot 60 percent in the first period, but had a hard time pulling away from East West who hit 10-of-17 three-pointers in the half. As a result the lead changed hands five times and was tied four times. At the half the Trolls had the 47-45 edge.  

The Trolls came out strong in the opening five minutes of the second period and went on a 13-to-4 run for an 11 point lead. That scoring cushion was cut to one point at the midway point of the period, but was back up to 11 with seven minutes to play. On a lay-up by Juozas Balciunas with three minutes left, the Trolls had their largest lead at 83-71. In the remaining time East West got a close as five, but Trinity held them off.

For the game Trinity ended with a .589 field goal percentage and a .704 free throw percentage. They denied East West any three-pointers in the second half and the Phantoms were .440 percent from the field overall. The Trolls finished with 36 rebounds and the Phantoms with 35. Jordan Perry scored 31 points, had seven rebounds, and added four assists.  Caleb Jonkman had 19 points. Balciunas just missed a double double with 15 points and nine assists. Myles Birgans added 10 points and six assists.

The Trolls return to conference play on December 17 with a home contest against Roosevelt University at 3 pm.
