Trinity Defeated by Saint Xavier

The Trolls let a conference game at Saint Xavier University (Chicago, Illinois) get away from them in the second half and ended with another loss. Trinity trailed by only three points after the first period, but was out-scored by 21 points in the second half for the 90-74 loss. The team now falls to 2-9 overall and 1-5 in the CCAC.

Trinity started out strong and led for the opening eight minutes of the game. With 11:15 to play Saint Xavier tied at 20-20 and on the next basket to take the top spot away from the Trolls. For the rest of the half the score was tied three more times and was in a deadlock at 40-40 with 2:24 in the period. The Cougars had the final three points of the half for the 43-40 intermission lead.

Saint Xavier scored the first four points in the second period to make it a seven point gap.  With 13 minutes left the difference hit double digits at 10 points and one minute later was 15 points at 63-48. Trinity continued to battle and, on a lay-up by Myles Birgans with 12 minutes left, had cut the gap to eight.  However, over the next two minutes Saint Xavier more than doubled that difference and took a 78-60 lead. The Trolls continued to lose ground through the rest of the game for the 24-point loss.

For the game Trinity shot .460 percent from the floor, .368 percent from the arc, and .654 percent from the line. The Cougars were .583 percent from the field, .500 percent from the three-point line, and .941 percent from the free throw line.  The Trolls picked up only 22 rebounds to the Cougars’ 35. Myles Birgans led the team with 17 points and three assists. Caleb Jonkman had 13 points and four assists And Trey Johnson added 13 points and was the high rebounder with six.

The Trolls play next in a non-conference game at home against East West University on December 14 at home at 7:30 pm.
