Trolls Challenge St. Francis

The Trolls gave No. 18 University of St. Francis (Joliet, Illinois) at good fight in a home conference game.  The first half was an up and down affair that left Trinity in an eight-point deficit at the break. Trinity made a great run in the second half and threatened down the stretch, but ultimately the final gap was eight points with the 71-63 loss. The team falls to 2-6 overall and 1-2 in the CCAC.

After the first five minutes of play the score was tied at 8-8, but that quickly changed on a 9-0 run by St. Francis to create a nine point gap. St. Francis continued to hold the lead through the rest of the half. They were ahead by as many as 13 points before the Trolls closed to within six in the final three minutes. At the intermission the difference was eight at 32-24.

In the opening ten minutes of the second half the scoring difference was as many as 13 and as few as three. With 9:31 to play that difference was eight points at 55-47. Trinity went on a 9-0 run and on a lay-up by Myles Birgans briefly took over the lead at 56-55 with 6:46 to play.

The teams remained in a close battle for the next few minutes and with 4:22 to play were in a 61-61 tie. However the Trolls added only two more points in the remaining time.  Despite their lack of scoring they were behind by only four points with just under a minute to play. St. Francis was solid from the line in the final seconds to hand the Trolls the loss.

Trinity shot .422 percent from the field and only .174 percent from the line. They were 5-of-5 from the line while St. Francis was 17-of-26.  Jordan Perry led the team with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Myles Birgans had 13 points and five boards and Juozas Balciunas added 11 points and four rebounds. Trey Johnson kicked in seven rebounds.

The Trolls play next on December 3 in a home contest with Robert Morris University at 3 pm.
