Trolls In the Win Column

The Trolls ended their trip to California on a positive note with a victory over the University of Antelope Valley (Lancaster, CA) in the second day of the Vanguard Thanksgiving Tournament.  The Trolls led throughout the entire game and were ahead 43-27 at the half.  They extended their lead in the second half to control the game. At the final buzzer the difference was 15 points at 89-74. The team moves to 2-5 for the season.

Behind .516 percent shooting in the first period the Trolls took the lead. Eight minutes into the game they had established a double-digit advantage. Late in the period on an 8-to-0 run they extended that lead to 19 points at 39-20 with four minutes left. Antelope Valley pulled to within 14 in the final minute of the half, but the Trolls went into the locker room with a 16 point half-time lead.

The shooting only got better in the second period as Trinity was .621 percent accurate from the floor. They hit five of their nine three-point attempts in the half. As a result their lead was never threatened. With seven minutes left in the game they had a 26 point lead and were still up by 20 with less than two minutes left. A couple of treys by the Pioneers in those final minutes made the difference 15 at the buzzer.

For the game the Trolls ended with a .567 field goal percentage. They hit 12-of-25 from the arc for .480 percent. Antelope Valley shot .409 percent from the field and .467 percent from the three-point line. Trinity had 38 rebounds and the Pioneers had 28.  Juozas Balciunas led the team with 25 points, of which 15 came from the arc, and six rebounds. Jordan Perry added 23 points and five boards. Caleb Jonkman knocked down three treys and had 15 points to go with six rebounds. Christian Cantu ended with five assists.

The Trolls will return home and to conference action on November 30 with a 7:30 pm game with the University of St. Francis.
