Opening Game Ends in Close Loss

The Trolls began their 2016-17 season in a road game at Wilberforce University (Wilberforce, Ohio). The team fell behind by seven points at the half with a score of 36-29. They added a total of 42 points in the second period, but still were four points shy of the victory with the 74-71 final.

In the first half of the game the team shot .333 percent from the field and only hit 3-of-11 of their free throws. On the other side Wilberforce shot .414 percent and connected on 7-of-10 charity throws. As a result Trinity entered the intermission trailing by seven points.

The Trolls picked up their offensive accuracy in the second period with a .484 field goal percentage. They got a scoring boost from Jordan Perry, who had a total of 27 points of which 19 came in the second half. In addition Caleb Jonkman, who was scoreless in the first period, added 15 in the second half. The Trolls also did a better job on the boards in the second period and out-rebounded Wilberforce 23-to-17.

Despite those efforts the Trolls could not make up the first-half scoring difference and ended with the three-point loss.

For the game Trinity ended with a .431 shooting percentage. They connected on 10-of-28 three-pointers for .357 percent. Both teams had 42 rebounds. Perry finished with a double-double of 27 points and 15 rebounds. Jonkman added 15 points and Juozas Balciunas had 12 points in his debut as a Troll. Trey Johnson added nine rebounds.

The team will play next on November 5 at home at 3 pm against Siena Heights University.
