Women's cross country is set for new season

Following a successful season with multiple NCCAA All-Americans, the Trinity women’s cross country team is looking to be just as competitive this year.

Led by head coach Bob Brickman, the Trolls will rely on some of their key returning runners to help them work toward their goal of getting a podium finish at the NCCAA Championship meet as a team. They also aspire to finish in the top half of the CCAC conference, which they did in previous seasons.

One of the key returners for Trinity is junior April VanRyn (Tinley Park, Ill./Chicago Christian High School). She returns after having to sit out the 2018 season, and with her comes her accolades from 2017 which includes earning NCCAA All-American, NAIA All-American and CCAC All-Conference honors.

Also returning for the Trolls is sophomore Allie Boss (Frankfort, Ill./Chicago Christian High School), who earned NCCAA All-American honors last season. Seniors Mikayla Van Laan (Wayland, Mich./South Christian High School) and Corrie Jacobi (San Marcos, Calif./Calvin Christian High School) are also both expected to make an impact for the team this season.

Along with these returning players, Brickman recruited a strong freshmen class and some key transfer students, who are expected to be key competitors for the Trolls this season.

In the conference standings, University of St. Francis is a favorite to win the conference with St. Ambrose and Olivet Nazarene close behind. Trinity expects to find themselves right behind these teams, fighting with Saint Xavier and Judson for spots four through six in the conference rankings.

This year, the team will start their season as they have in the past by going to the University of St. Francis Invitational on Aug. 30. They will continue the rest of their season competing against key competitors within the conference. One of the meets the team looks forward to this season is the Loyola Chicago Invitational because of the great competition and running by the lakefront.

Following these meets, the team will conclude its season by competing in the CCAC Championships in Valparaiso, Ind. on Nov. 9 followed by the NCCAA National Championships in Joplin, Mo. on Nov. 16.
