Trolls Compete in Seminole Valley Stampede

The Trolls competed in a large field of NAIA teams in the Seminole Valley Stampede hosted by Mount Mercy University in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Running at an alternate course at Noelridge Park, the teams finished in the top part of the field which contained many teams in the national rankings. The women’s team place eight overall among 27 teams and the men were ninth of 23 teams.

In the women’s 5K race six of the teams that finished above the Trolls are ranked or receiving votes in the NAIA poll. Trinity’s team, who is also receiving votes, was led by Megan DeWeerd who took sixth place overall in a field of 286 competitors.  She was in good company with a group of runners from top teams. DeWeerd finished with a time of 19:04.8.

Nicole Syverson was the team’s second runner.  She took 22nd place overall at 19:43.3. Hope Fathman finished in 44th place at 20:13.2. Finishing 20 seconds behind Fathman at 20:32.2 was Allie Boss in 69th place.

The men’s team was ninth overall and less than a minute out of sixth place. In a field of 276 runners, the top four finishers for the Trolls crossed the line in a pack with only 10 seconds and seven places separating them.  Andrew Dobrescu led the team in 51st place with a time of 27:25.2. Nick Heidinger was two seconds back at 27:27.6 for 52nd place. Caleb DeWeerd was another six seconds back and four places with a time of 27:33.1 for 56th place.  Also in the tight group was Brantley VanOverloop in 58th place at 27:35.0.

The Trolls next meet is the CCAC Championships hosted by St. Ambrose University.
