All-American Performances at NAIA Cross Country Championship

Trinity’s cross country team was in good hands with Megan DeWeerd and April VanRyn representing the Trolls at the NAIA National Championship at Fort Vancouver Historical Site in Vancouver, Washington. In the 5K race of 338 runners DeWeerd and VanRyn both finished in the top 30 and earned NAIA All-American honors.

DeWeerd became the highest place finisher at the national meet for Trinity’s women’s program as she crossed the line in seventh place overall.  At 17:39 she recorded the same time as the sixth place finisher and was just three seconds out of fifth place. She was the top finisher among the competitors from CCAC schools.

VanRyn came across the finish line in 28th place in her first NAIA national race. She was in a pack of five runners that all recorded times of 18:03.  Her time was only three seconds out of a top 20 spot. She was one of four freshmen in the top 30.
