Trolls Compete in Seminole Valley Stampede

The cross country course at Seminole Valley Park in Cedar Rapids, Iowa was full of competitors participating in the Seminole Valley Stampede hosted by Mount Mercy University. At the meet , which had 29 schools represented and hundreds of runners, the women’s team finished in 10th place of 28 teams and the men’s team was 13th of 29.

Once again Megan DeWeerd and April VanRyn were among the elite runners on the course as they came in second and third place respectively among the 279 runners. They crossed the finish line only four seconds apart from each other.  DeWeerd’s second place finish in the 5K race was accomplished with a time of 17:59.3. VanRyn logged a time of 18:03.

The No. 3 runner for the women’s team was Nicole Syverson who finished in the top half of the competitors with an 84th place finish. She clocked a time of 20:29.3.

The field of runners on the men’s side had 285 runners. The Trolls had four competitors finish between 40th and 80th. Brantley VanOverloop led the team with a 47th place finish at 27:18.3.  Kyle VanderPlaats came across the line at 27:40.8 and took 66th place. Nine seconds back at 27:49.8 was Nick Heidinger for 76th place. Caleb DeWeerd finished in 79th place at 27:52.0.

The Trolls compete next in the CCAC Championships hosted by Judson University on November 4.
