Megan DeWeerd Earns NCCAA Runner of the Week Honors

Picking up her third first place finish of the season, junior Megan DeWeerd (Sioux Falls, South Dakota) was named the NCCAA Division I Women’s Cross Country Student-Athlete of the Week for October 2-7. She received the honor after a record-setting performance at the Benedictine University Eagle Invite on October 6.

At the meet DeWeerd outran 182 competitors over the 6K course to finish as the top runner. Her time of 21:52.7 was a new school record, breaking the previous record by 51 seconds.  Her strongest competitor in the race was teammate April VanRyn who finished one second behind her in second place. The third place runner was 20 seconds back.

With her first place finish DeWeerd helped the team to third place of 16 teams.

For the season DeWeerd has three first place and one second place finish. She now holds the school record in the 5K and 6K distances. The team is currently ranked No. 20 in the NAIA Coaches’ Poll.
