Trolls Shine at Lake Forest Invite

The Trolls found their stride at the Lake Forest College Forester Invitational.  Over the 6K course at Foss Park Golf Course, the women’s team finished in first place overall among the four complete teams and the men’s team was third of the five competing schools. Each team had multiple top finishers and another school record was broken.

The women ran away with the race with a first place finish. They had the top two finishers in Megan DeWeerd and April VanRyn. They also had three runners in the top five, four runners in the top 10, and five runners in the top 15. DeWeerd was the overall winner of the field of 54 and she did it in a school record breaking time of 22:41.5, which is two seconds faster than the previous record. VanRyn crossed the line next at 23:04.7

In the top five was Nicole Syverson who took fifth place at 24:25.7. Hope Fathman was in the top 10 with an eighth place finish as she crossed the line at 25:19. Logging a time under 26 minutes was Mikayla VanLaan who took 13th place overall at 25:54.8.

The men’s team finished in the middle of the pack among the competing schools, but had four runners finish in the top 15 in a field of 57 competitors. The Trolls were led by Brantley VanOverloop who took sixth place overall. He clocked a time of 27:36.4, which is his personal best. Caleb DeWeerd was a top 10 runner with an eighth place finish at 27:49.9.

Also in the top 15 was Nick Heidinger who took 12th place overall at 28:07.2.  Only 12 seconds behind him was Kyle VanderPlaats at 28:19.5 for 13th place.

The Trolls will compete next on September 29 at Olivet Nazarene University.
